WHAT IS            APPAREL?

1221 Logo White.PNG

1221 Apparel is a Los Angeles–based fashion brand built on creativity, craftsmanship, and the courage to reinvent. Founded by designer Imani Elise Marshall, 1221 began with reworked denim and evolved into a collection of handmade, one-of-one pieces that blend individuality with intention.

Each garment tells a story — one of transformation, artistry, and self-expression. From intricate beadwork to reconstructed silhouettes, every detail is designed and crafted by hand using premium materials such as Japanese denim and fur, celebrating the beauty of originality and the power of personal style.

What started as a personal journey has grown into a movement — one that represents authenticity, confidence, and creative freedom. Since launching in January 2024, 1221 Apparel has been featured at The Los Angeles Fashion Show and seen on prominent artists and influencers, marking early milestones in our mission to merge art and fashion on a global scale.

At 1221, we believe in more than just clothing — we create wearable art that inspires self-discovery, self-expression, and connection through design.

IMANI MARSHALL CEO/LEAD DESIGNER

Imani Elise Marshall is the Lead Designer and founder of 1221 Apparel, a Los Angeles–based fashion house redefining modern craftsmanship through individuality and intention.

Originally from Sacramento, California, Imani discovered her love for design at eight years old, when her grandmother first taught her how to sew — a skill that soon became her language of imagination. During college, she faced a series of hardships — including car accidents, relationship challenges, and family struggles — that tested her resilience and reshaped her perspective. In 2023, while still in college, she reignited her passion for fashion, channeling her experiences into her craft. After moving to Los Angeles, she officially launched 1221 Apparel in 2024.

What began as a small rework project in her home studio has evolved into a distinct line of handmade, one-of-one garments recognized for their artistry, intricate beadwork, and use of rare materials like Japanese denim and fur. Each piece carries an emotional signature — a reminder that creativity can rebuild what life breaks down.

Imani’s work has been showcased during LA Fashion Week and worn by Grammy-nominated producers, high-profile artists, streamers, stylists, and creatives who gravitate toward authenticity and innovation. Through 1221 Apparel, she continues to merge art and storytelling, crafting wearable expressions of strength, identity, and evolution.

UCHE OBIM BRAND MANAGER

Uché Obim is the Assistant Creative Director and Brand Manager of 1221 Apparel, where concept, culture, and storytelling converge. With a background in Public Relations, he brings a strategic eye to creative identity — transforming raw ideas into refined narratives that define how the brand moves, communicates, and connects. Raised in East Oakland, California, Uché approaches design from a place of depth and understanding. After losing both parents during college, he learned what it means to persevere through loss and build something meaningful out of pain. That experience fuels his connection to 1221’s message of resilience, reinvention, and purpose.

As a conceptual designer and brand architect, Uché focuses on direction, functionality, and experience — ensuring that every piece not only tells a story but also meets the needs of the person wearing it. With a strong focus on culture and consumer connection, he bridges creativity with practicality to make 1221 both expressive and wearable.

For Uché, fashion is more than style — it’s legacy, evolution, and the art of becoming.
